Justin’s Four-Month Follow Up at PAI Medical Group Indiana

Combining PRP Therapy and Hair Transplants

Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy has been around for a while, used as a medical treatment for healing damaged body tissue, etc. PAI Medical Group Indiana is one of a select group of hair restoration industry leaders that are now using this method as a procedure to help thicken and regrow hair or in conjunction with a hair transplant. More and more patients are now opting to receive PRP Therapy during their hair transplant procedure. PAI Medical Group Indiana has found that PRP helps speed up healing and help the new follicles grow in thicker and fuller.

The Process

The patient’s blood is drawn and then spun in a centrifuge to separate the blood into two components: platelet rich plasma and platelet poor plasma. Patients do not have to have a lot of blood drawn since only a small amount is needed for PRP. In hair transplants, Platelet Rich Plasma is infused with an A-Cell matrix, which promotes stem cell growth. PAI Medical Group Indiana has the highest quality centrifuges to carefully separate the blood and prepare the Platelet Rich Plasma for hair transplants.

Once the Platelet Rich Plasma and the a-cell matrix are combined, this new mix is added directly to the hair transplant site. Combined with the transplanted hair follicles, PRP stimulates growth, thickens the follicle, and helps speed up the recovery process of a hair transplant.

Monitoring the Effects

Technology has advanced greatly in the past few years and this gives PAI the best tools and microscopic cameras to effectively measure the changes at a hair transplant site after receiving PRP. Hair transplanted areas that have had PRP can been monitored for up to a full year, so PAI is able to accurately and diligently measure the benefits from PRP. For most patients, the results show a positive correlation between transplant site healing and the use of PRP therapy.

Low-Level Laser Hair Therapy: Can you use it in conjunction with a hair transplant?

Many of the most-widely recommended hair restoration experts are now strongly suggesting the use of Low-Level Laser Therapy or LLLT for their patients post-transplant. Laser therapy post-procedure has been shown to help newly transplanted hair develop at a faster rate, expedite the healing process and assist in the thickening and reinforcement of the patient’s hair in pre-existing donor areas.

In LLLT, a laser light is used on the scalp, rotating beams of light that cover the scalp entirely. A hood is placed over the scalp area emitting a red light that can penetrate several layers of tissue. The procedure is non-surgical, with no pain or apparent side effects. There are no creams, oils or harmful chemicals. The “cold” laser helps to stimulate blood flow to the scalp. This rejuvenates new cells and repairs damaged ones in the areas of a hair transplant.
