PAI Medical Group – The Latest Technology in Hair Restoration

PAI Medical Group of Indiana strives to provide our clients with the most advanced hair restoration technology. Less invasive Non-Surgical Solutions, such as Laser Hair Therapy (available at PAI) are becoming increasingly popular and PAI has decided to expand on this technology. We are proud to announce that our facility in Indianapolis will soon be providing patients with new advanced hair loss treatments — Platelet Rich Plasma and Micro Pigmentation.

Laser Hair Therapy

Low-level Laser Hair Therapy (LLLT) is a non-surgical solution for both men and women suffering from hair loss. These low-level lasers are “soft” lasers and do not have the thermal component to cut or burn. The FDA recently approved this type of treatment for the promotion of hair growth. It is safe for people with all skin and hair types.

Benefits of Laser Hair Therapy Include:

  • Increased blood flow to the scalp based on microcirculation
  • Increased nutrient supply to enhance hair growth
  • Slowing down and stopping the progression of hair loss
  • Repaired and improved hair shaft quality
  • Relief of scalp conditions such as psoriasis and seborrhea
  • Laser hair therapy can help you achieve thicker, fuller, shinier and healthier looking hair

Gunner, a +Q95 radio personality in Indianapolis went through Laser Hair Therapy Treatments at PAI (shown above). He started to notice his hair thinning so he came to PAI Medical Group to speak with one of our hair loss experts and begin LLLT treatments. Now he has a fuller head of hair that is much healthier. The LLLT process usually takes around a year to complete but you will start to see results before the year is over. This treatment is best for people who are in the early stages of hair loss.

Platelet Rich Plasma

Platelet Rich Plasma is a new hair loss treatment that is coming soon to PAI Medical Group of Indiana. During this procedure, a small amount of blood is taken from the patient’s arm. The Platelet Rich Plasma is separated from the blood and is activated. The activated platelet rich plasma is injected into the scalp containing growth factors. This treatment works by encouraging normalization of hair follicles. Bioactive proteins help with tissue repair and hair loss and growth factors activate and rejuvenate cells in the body.

Micro Pigmentation

Another new technology that is coming soon to PAI Medical Group is Micro Pigmentation. For this procedure, dermal pigments are selectively matched to the patient’s hair color to create a shadow effect resembling the appearance of short hair. The size of the pigments are matched to the size of the hairs. This technique can also be used on patients with longer hair to fill in the scalp creating the appearance of fuller hair.

These are just some of the ways PAI Medical Center can treat hair loss. Platelet Rich Plasma and Micro Pigmentation are new technologies coming to PAI Medical Center very soon! Multi-Unit Hair Grafting™ - PAI Medical Group of Indiana

At PAI Medical Group of Indiana we strive to bring you the latest in hair restoration technology to provide you with the most natural appearance and the greatest density per procedure. Our unique trademarked Multi-Unit Hair Grafting™ procedure can transfer up to three times the hair in a single session versus Micro and Follicular Unit grafting. While not everyone is a candidate for hair transplantation, new harvesting techniques are allowing more people to be eligible for hair transplants than ever before.

What Makes Multi-Unit Hair Grafting™ Different?

Multi-Unit Hair Grafting uses a blend of different hair groupings (grafts) that are moved according to the natural way in which they exist. This outpatient procedure uses a blend of different surgical technologies to move donor hairs from the back and sides of the head to the areas experiencing hair loss. Another advantage of multi-unit grafts is that we are able to create a more natural hair line that is both age and gender specific. No more worrying about the “pluggy” or “doll look.”

Benefits of Multi-Unit Hair Grafting™
  • Maximizes hair per volume
  • Results in a natural appearance
  • Is ideal for people with advanced hair loss
  • Is ideal for those with moderate hair loss
  • Is ideal for those with minimal hair
  • Lower cost per hair transplanted

What to Expect After the Procedure:

The PAI Medical Group of Indiana process goes well beyond just the hair transplant procedure. Activity should be restricted in the first 24 hours after the procedure and some “pinkness” is possible but should subside in approximately 10 days. 4-6 weeks after the transplant, the graft hairs will fall out and 3-5 months after the procedure you should expect to see new hair growing at a normal rate.

Multi-Unit Hair Grafting™ – more hair, one procedure – saving you time and money.  This latest technology is giving more people the opportunity to have a hair transplant. Even if you were told previously that you are not a candidate for a hair transplant call us at (888) 724-5129 to schedule a free consultation.

Your FAQ’s Answered!

Image
Even though losing your hair can be a frightening process, restoring it doesn’t have to be. When deciding to seek a solution for your hair loss it’s normal to have a lot of questions. At PAI Medical Group of Indiana, we want to make the process as simple and easy as possible by answering some of the most commonly asked questions. If you still have questions, don’t hesitate to call us at (888) 724-5129 to schedule a free consultation with one of our hair restoration experts. Get ready to step out from behind your hair loss, regain your confidence and restore your natural appearance with the help of PAI Medical Group of Indiana.

Am I a good candidate for a hair transplant from PAI Medical Indiana?

Most people suffering from androgenetic alopecia or other common hair loss types are candidates for hair transplantation with PAI Medical Indiana. Hair loss candidacy essentially depends on three key elements:

  • How much permanent hair you still have.
  • The degree or severity of baldness or thinning you are experiencing relative to the amount of hair you still have.
  • Your overall hair restoration goals and expectations – We place a high level of emphasis on a patient’s expectations, and an honest conversation regarding potential hair loss in the future and what you want to achieve long term with your hair transplant procedure is crucial.

Is there an ideal age to begin hair transplantation?

A commonly-debated subject among hair restoration surgeons, the ideal age range for hair transplantation isn’t as cut-and-dry as you might think. Research has shown transplanting in the early stages of hair loss could provide for easier concealment of hair loss, which would allow the patient to limit the appearance of thinning before it becomes noticeable. At PAI Medical Indiana, we always recommend a private consultation for all our prospective hair transplant patients, particularly patients under the age of 24. For patients that are a minor, we require the parent or guardian to be present during all consultations.

What is the difference between hair grafts and PAI Medical Levels?

A hair graft can contain anywhere from 1 to 10 hairs, generally speaking. A large number hair restoration clinics charge for hair transplants by the graft. The problem with this approach? Because the number of grafts is unique to each and every patient and every procedure, predicting a consistent range in order to provide accurate pricing is quite difficult, making it a bit of a mystery in many cases as to how much the final cost of your hair transplant will actually be. The PAI Medical Levels measure number of hairs, not hair grafts, and the general area to be covered in the procedure, which reduces confusion for the patient and allows us to offer more affordable transplant options.

How many hairs will be transplanted?

One graft does not equal one hair. Our hair restoration physicians will harvest hair grafts from 1-7 hairs, depending on the area experiencing hair loss. For example, 1,200 grafts would equal an average of 5,000 to 7,000 hairs. This range of evenly distributed hair grafts will produce a natural hairline with the ideal density and coverage.

How many sessions will I need to achieve results?

One of the many benefits of our Multi-Unit Hair Grafting™ procedure is that we reduce the number of procedures by moving more hair in each procedure.  Multi-Unit Hair Grafting™ allows up to twice the normal hair volume compared to traditional Follicular Unit hair transplants. So you're provided a much better value to meet your hair restoration goals, often in only 1 or 2 procedures.

How long after my hair transplant procedure will I begin to see hair growth?

Generally, hair growth occurs within 3-5 months after the hair transplant procedure. The number of new hairs will continue to increase for 12 months.

What type of post-operative care does PAI Medical provide?

We highly recommend a post-operative treatment program for all of our patients at PAI Medical Indiana. For more information on what you should expect after your hair transplant procedure, please review our hair restoration process.

How soon can I go back to work after the procedure?

We recommend that activity in general is restricted during the first 24 hours after the procedure, as well as limiting physically demanding activities within the first 10 days, or until your sutures are removed. You can return to work within a day or two following your procedure depending on the level of strain your occupation requires, in addition to your overall comfort level following the procedure.

ARTAS® The Future of Hair Restoration at PAI

Over the past two decades, robotic surgery has become increasingly popular. Robotic systems have proven to excel when performing precise and repetitive surgical movements, while producing excellent results. Their less invasive techniques grant patients with faster procedures, decreased recovery time, and reduced pain. The benefits of robotics in this field are tough to ignore.

A team of engineers and physicians who specialize in image-guidance and surgical robotics created Restoration Robotics, Inc. Determined to create a system to assist hair transplantation, they developed The ARTAS® Robotic System. They are the first and only company involved in hair restoration robotics.

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is a relatively newer procedure in the world of hair restoration. It is a less invasive procedure, by physicians have not rapidly embraced it because it requires challenging specialized training. FUE demands the surgeon to accurately analyze follicle angle and direction in addition to skin type. As a result, the procedure will be slow and tedious.

The ARTAS® System is designed specifically to assist a surgeon performing the FUE procedure. The physician controls the computer-assisted arm that utilizes advanced digital imagery to harvest hair follicles. It analyzes the scalp and harvests the most viable follicles, thus the graft quality is extremely high. The system allows the physician to supply the patient with maximum results.
This is the latest technological advancement in the hair restoration industry. With this system, a physician with only a few hours of training can produce results as well as a physician with many years of experience. In addition, a physician using ARTAS® can complete a FUE procedure three times as fast and with higher quality grafts.

The less invasive procedure makes hair restoration much more attractive to those interested in a transplant; there is reduced recovery time, discomfort, and scarring and increased results. The system revolutionizes the entire hair restoration experience for both the patient and the physician.

As the leader in hair restoration and hair treatments PAI Medical has teamed up with Restoration Robotics to provide today’s most state-of-the-art hair transplant system to those in the Mid-West. As one of only 35 hair surgery centers in the world to offer ARTAS®, PAI Medical continues to lead the industry in providing the best and most up to date technology to its patients. For more information on ARTAS® visit http://wegrowhairindy.com/hair-loss-solutions/ARTAS/.

Steroids and Hair Loss

There is a long list of drugs associated with hair loss, including steroids. Although, some steroids shed evidence of contributing to hair loss, some may only stimulate it. The fear of hair loss is a primary concern for many prospective steroid users. Because of this, it is important to speak to a physician before beginning a steroid regime.

For those of you who are not familiar with anabolic steroids, they are synthetic steroid hormones that imitate testosterone. For medical purposes, physicians prescribe such hormones to patients facing weight loss problems. On the other hand, body builders and athletes abuse steroids to enhance physical appearance and performance.

A hormone called DHT (Dihydrotestosterone) is a male sex hormone. There is a specific enzyme that synthesizes DHT in the hair follicles. Both men and women can lose hair due to changes in the metabolism of androgen, a natural hormone (such as testosterone). However, it is more common in men than women. Ultimately, DHT plays a major role in hair loss.

Androgenic (androgenetic) alopecia is caused by the hair follicle's sensitivity to DHT. Androgenic alopecia is commonly referred to as male pattern baldness. This condition causes follicles to shrink, thus causing a shorter lifespan, thinning hair, and hair loss.

Those who are genetically predisposed to male pattern baldness will accelerate the process of hair loss when taking steroids. This is due to increased levels of DHT in the body. It is all luck of the draw when it comes to genetics. If someone in your family is bald, there is a higher probability that you may develop androgenic alopecia, but it is not guaranteed. Genetics can sometimes skip generations.

So, even though many think that steroids directly cause ones hair to fall out, this is not entirely true. It will only stimulate and speed up hair loss for those who are prone to male pattern baldness. However, it is not a good idea to take any type of steroid unless prescribed by a medical professional. In addition, synthetic drugs are not the best alternatives and too much of anything is never good. There are many alternatives available that provide natural results.

Genetics of Hair Loss

Studies show that genetics are the cause for most cases of hair loss. In fact, it's been estimated that more than 80% of cases of male pattern baldness are hereditary. Many tend to believe that male pattern baldness is associated with genes on the mother's side of the family, but this is not entirely true.

There are key genes that come from the maternal grandfather. However, these genes are not the only cause of hair loss. Statistics show that if your father or maternal grandfather is bald, you are more likely to develop male pattern baldness as well. This condition affects women too; however, it is much more likely to occur in men.

It is now known that genetic hair loss can originate from both sides of the family. It is also known that a combination of genes can be responsible, compared to just a single gene. In addition, just because a person carries a gene for male pattern baldness, this does not always mean the gene will express itself.

Different studies have linked various genes with male pattern baldness. Yet, the most prominent cause for male pattern baldness is a variation in the androgen receptor gene. This gene variant was found more often in men who were prematurely balding than men with a full head of hair. Both men and women can lose hair due to changes in the metabolism of androgen, a natural hormone (such as testosterone). The variation in the androgen receptor gene appears to increase androgens' effects, thus leading to hair loss. Excess androgen can lead to excess hair on the body, yet hair loss on the scalp.

Although, numerous genes have been found to cause hair loss, there are many other non-genetic factors, such as stress or medication, that can cause hair to fall out. Also, even if your maternal grandfather has a full head of hair, there's still a good chance you might start to lose your hair one day. If that day ever comes, keep your mind at ease knowing that there are many permanent and natural hair restoration solutions available.

The best solution to preventing hair loss is an early diagnosis by a team of hair loss professionals such as PAI. Improved results may occur when hair loss is medically treated in its earliest stages. Some hair restoration solutions include hair transplants, non-surgical medications, and low level laser hair therapy.

Benefits of The ARTAS® Robotic FUE System At PAI

At PAI Medical Group of Indiana, restoring your natural appearance with affordable and effective hair transplants is our focus. With that being said, PAI is proud to be the only facility in Indianapolis to offer The ARTAS® Robotic FUE Hair Transplant System. So, what are the benefits of FUE Hair Transplants and The ARTAS® Robotic FUE System? Keep reading to find out!

Precision
The ARTAS® Robotic FUE System at PAI uses specialized cameras and digital mapping to analyze
the patient’s follicle direction and angle. The computerized system tracks all of the follicular units on the patient’s head and tracks patient movement. It eliminates certain variables to ensure the most accurate harvesting. Lastly, the intuitive controls allow the physician to modify precision depth if needed.

Safety
The ARTAS® Robotic FUE System meets both CE and FDA standards. It possesses a force censor that constantly monitors the amount of force exerted by the needle onto the patient’s donor area. There are touch-sensitive sensors that automatically back the machine’s arm away from the patient when triggered. The ARTAS® Robotic FUE System recognizes patient movement and pauses until the physician is ready to proceed. In addition, the needles have markings on them to indicate incision depth.

Decreased Scarring
Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) is a procedure whereby a strip of scalp is excised from the patient and transplanted. The ARTAS® Robotic FUE System utilizes a system that is much less invasive and produces little to no scarring.

Faster Healing
The healing process associated with The ARTAS® Robotic FUE System is much shorter too. The donor area may heal in as short as 7 to 10 days, while it can take up to 3 weeks to heal from an FUT procedure.

Fewer Treatments
The robotic assistance with The ARTAS® Robotic FUE System increases productivity rates as much as 3 times. For example, a physician performing an FUE procedure by hand can extract 200 to 300 grafts in an hour. With The ARTAS® Robotic FUE System, one can extract 500 to 1000 grafts in an hour. This may allow most physicians to complete the procedure in one sitting compared to multiple treatments with traditional techniques.
